klaibyaṁ mā sma gamaḥ pārtha naitat tvayyupapadyate kṣhudraṁ hṛidaya-daurbalyaṁ tyaktvottiṣhṭha parantapa
Translation
Do not give in to this unmanliness, O Parth; it does not become you. Cast off this petty weakness of heart and stand up, O scorcher of foes!
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
Commentary
"Uttiṣhṭha" — stand up — is one of the most quoted words of the Gita. Krishna calls Arjun's despair "weakness of heart," not compassion, and "petty" because it is out of proportion to who Arjun really is. He addresses him as Parantapa, "scorcher of enemies," reminding him of his true nature. This is still the language of encouragement; the philosophy begins in verse 11.
