एतान्न हन्तुमिच्छामि घ्नतोऽपि मधुसूदन । अपि त्रैलोक्यराज्यस्य हेतोः किं नु महीकृते ॥ ३५ ॥
etān na hantum ichchhāmi ghnato ’pi madhusūdana api trailokya-rājyasya hetoḥ kiṁ nu mahī-kṛite
Translation
these I do not wish to kill, O Madhusudan, even if they kill me — not even for the rule of the three worlds, let alone for this earth.
Hindi Meaning (हिंदी अर्थ)
हे मधुसूदन! ये मुझे मार भी डालें, तब भी मैं इन्हें मारना नहीं चाहता — तीनों लोकों के राज्य के लिए भी नहीं, फिर पृथ्वी के लिए तो कहना ही क्या।
Commentary
Arjun calls Krishna Madhusudan, "slayer of the demon Madhu" — perhaps unconsciously, since Krishna killed demons without hesitation, whereas these are not demons but family. His willingness to be killed rather than kill is noble-sounding, but it also means abandoning the people who depend on him to fight.
