History
From the Raghunath Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya
The Shri Raghunath Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, established by the former ruler of Jammu & Kashmir, was taken over by the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan on 1 April 1971 as one of its constituent Vidyapeethas and named Shri Ranbir Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha. When the Sansthan became a deemed university it was renamed Shri Ranbir Campus, and it is now a campus of the Central Sanskrit University. The Shiksha Shastri (B.Ed.) course for training Sanskrit teachers began here in 1979.
Kashmir Shaiva Darshana and the campus today
The campus has eight departments, including one of Kashmir Shaiva Darshana, and has undertaken a Kashmir Shaiva Darshana Kosha, a dictionary of the school, of which two volumes have been published. Its own main building, library and residential block at Kot Bhalwal were inaugurated by Dr. Karan Singh on 18 March 2007 on 10.45 acres allotted by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir. The library holds about 39,000 books, and there are hostels for boys and girls.
