सदृशं चेष्टते स्वस्याः प्रकृतेर्ज्ञानवानपि । प्रकृतिं यान्ति भूतानि निग्रहः किं करिष्यति ॥ ३३ ॥
sadṛiśhaṁ cheṣhṭate svasyāḥ prakṛiter jñānavān api prakṛitiṁ yānti bhūtāni nigrahaḥ kiṁ kariṣhyati
Translation
Even a wise person acts according to their own nature; all beings follow their nature. What can mere suppression achieve?

ज्ञानवान भी अपनी प्रकृति के अनुसार ही चेष्टा करता है; सभी प्राणी अपनी प्रकृति को ही प्राप्त होते हैं। फिर इसमें हठ (निग्रह) क्या करेगा?
Commentary
A realistic note: temperament is powerful, and simply forcing it down rarely works. This is why Krishna recommends channelling one's nature through one's own duty (next verses), rather than fighting it.
