bṛihat-sāma tathā sāmnāṁ gāyatrī chhandasām aham māsānāṁ mārga-śhīrṣho ’ham ṛitūnāṁ kusumākaraḥ
Translation
Of the Sama hymns I am the Brihat Sama; of metres, the Gayatri; of months, Margashirsha; and of seasons, the flower-bearing spring.

गायन करने योग्य श्रुतियों में मैं बृहत्साम और छंदों में गायत्री छंद हूँ; तथा महीनों में मार्गशीर्ष और ऋतुओं में वसंत मैं हूँ।
Commentary
Margashirsha (Agahan, November–December) is named as the finest month — the same month in which, by tradition, the Gita itself was spoken and Gita Jayanti is celebrated. Spring (kusumākara, "the maker of flowers") is the finest season.
