In 1972 it was affiliated to the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, which took it over on 16 July 1979 as the Guruvayoor Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha. It became the Sansthan's Guruvayoor Campus on its becoming a deemed university, and is now a campus of the Central Sanskrit University.

The campus stands on 14.65 acres in a green locality at Puranattukara, about 10 km from Thrissur railway station, with a main building built by the CPWD, boys' and girls' hostels of 40 rooms each, a library building and a guest house. A distance-education centre has worked since 2010 at P.T. Kuriakkose Smrithi Bhavan, Pavaratty, near Guruvayoor.
